Biotech’s potentialities enhances productivity

It seems as though science has done everything for anything, including the field of agriculture. The scientists has invented this and that, researched about this and rediscovered that. Perhaps now, farming in our nation would improve with the biotechnological focus.

As the growing population demands for greater consumption, biotechnology paves its essential role. The ability of its application enhances production making the field of agriculture bring prosperity in farming and a variety of healthy food options for consumers.

In scientific terms, biotechnology is the application of biochemistry. Biology and chemical engineering to industrial processes and products most especially in agriculture.

In developing countries such as the Philippines, we greatly consider the advances in biotechnology. Because agriculture in tropical countries like ours produces ample amount of residues and other biomass that offer opportunities for conversion into beneficial products. Biotechnology can really use techniques which are simple, perhaps because it deals with the pre-existing, the available living materials. And to add to that, agricultural economies in developing countries use this action to improve their agricultural practices and optimize their efficiency.

There is a growing consensus that basically aims in agricultural development, not only in improvement in production, but an eligible, efficient and ecologically sustainable system of agriculture.

In biotechnology, we can supply useful products for sustainable agriculture. The major contribution of biotechnology will be in reducing the use of agricultural chemicals, while sustaining the productivity needed to feed the world's population with more productive and resistant crops and animals, through faster and more precise diagnosis of plant and animal diseases, and through improvements in the supply of livestock feed.

With the growing demand of food consumption here in our country, our government should initiate in funding this program to be able to solve food shortage and help lessen harmful agricultural chemicals that may affect our farmers.
